{Senior} Emily | Dyersburg Tennessee Senior Pictures

I didn’t know Emily when she messaged me about a session. I just knew she was from Dyersburg. And beautiful. Gawd, I love Facebook!

When we discussed her session, I had just started using the vintage car place and I couldn’t wait to get Emily there to shoot her beautiful images. However, we had to cancel due to bad weather. Then we almost had to cancel a second time due to impending bad weather. Fortunately, we beat it, just in time.

I also found some new locations to shoot her session, places that are ugly and yucky, but make for some killer images and very different from any other senior sessions I’ve seen. I’m always happy that my clients trust my instincts when I find these craptastic places and they are thrilled with the results of these images. If you ever see me driving around and not looking straight, you can bet I’m looking for the next awesome location. Or looking in my bag for something.

We topped off the session going to a random metal wall and were greeted by two women, one with whom I went to high school. They were absolutely hilarious, giving Emily shout-outs for being so pretty and really interested in the location where I was shooting.

“Ooooh, girl! What made you think of this place? Oooooh, weeeee, girl, YOU SO PRETTY! Girl, you got it going on! Can I get your card?”

Yes, it was hilarious and if you’re not laughing, well, you just had to be there. I have many stories of random people just stopping and watching a session in progress, but very few times do people just stop to talk and/or ask questions.

Emily, girlfriend, you know how I feel about your session! You knocked it out of the park and your awesome personality just elevated a great session into a fabulous one! I enjoyed getting to know you, and your goals for the future. You are one smart cookie with a sense of humor and joy of life. Your mom is one of the coolest moms out there, and tell her “thank you” for the hug! Nothing but the best of wishes to you in nursing at Chattanooga – I know you’ll do great!

{Senior 2011} Hailee | Delta C-7 Deering Senior Photographer

As I’ve said repeatedly, I love shooting seniors and I love shooting senior girls even more. And I love when they bring their friends along because it helps bring out their true personality.

While I love when parents come to the sessions, I pretty much know that the senior will not open up as much or will feel intimidated with a parent around. I mean, do the kids really want to open up about their relationships or the latest weekend drama when mom is around? Yeah, I didn’t think so. (But for the record, I do enjoy when a parent or two come to the session – I can’t imagine how emotional it is for them.)

Anyways, Hailee brought two of her friends, one of whom I’ve had a session with already. As always, it takes a little time to warm up and while Hailee started out shy and giggly, she soon brought out her inner runway model and cranked out some of my favorite images to date. Of course, the girls kept me entertained, as young girls tend to do with their stories.

We started out at Don’s Classic Car Projects between Hayti and Kennett. I really love that place and there’s so much to use out there, as you will see from Hailee’s session. We then made our way back into town and found a really awesome (read: old) gas pump. Hailee’s sparkling blue eyes just put the icing on the cake with her images.

Hailee, thank you for a great session and I enjoyed getting to meet you. Congratulations on your graduation and best wishes on your future!

Super Senior Destiny | Southeast Missouri Senior Photography

When I announced the Super Senior contest back last fall, I was so excited about the prospect of who would win. Shooting seniors is one of my favorite parts about my photography business, and I’m loving that my senior business is really picking up. However, I do know the expenses that come with seniors – I was once one, a loooooong time ago.

From announcements, class rings, graduation cap & gown costs, homecoming/prom attire, and every little nickel-and-dime items all add up to quite a bit. Senior pictures usually take a back seat to all of these things, and sadly, many seniors don’t get to commemorate this very special time in their lives. Even if you don’t have a session with me, I encourage students and parents to plan and budget for a senior session – this is a very special time in their lives and having beautiful photographs by which to remember this final year in school will be priceless.

With that being said, I hatched a plan late last summer to find a deserving senior and give them a special session with Stephanie Greenwell Photography. I received only a few nominations, but each one of them touched me. Each nomination pulled at the heartstrings and I knew it would be a hard decision. So, I did what I felt was best in judging: I had friend draw names. Yep, it works perfectly every single time. But I even did the best 3-out-of-3 kind of drawing. And within four draws, Miss Destiny won. How I was so excited to send that email to her!

We planned our date and location, and as she wished, she wanted to shoot at her home. There’s a tractor in her large backyard that has sentimental value to her family, especially her grandfather. And then, the greenery in her backyard was just perfect for her chosen outfits and the lighting. Meeting Destiny, she’s a very soft-spoken girl (unlike myself) and very beautiful. And sweet. She made my shooting very easy and fun, and we had quite a few laughs. Her father was there to support her as well as her cousin, and you can tell that there’s a lot of love for this young lady.

Destiny, you are an absolute sweetheart, with a subdued charm about yourself. I’m so very happy that I had the pleasure of shooting your senior session and I’m just thrilled with your images. Best wishes to you in your future – I know you’re determinationn will carry you along as you make your way in this crazy world!

Senior in the City | Memphis Tennessee Senior Photographer

BBQ. Blues. And Beale.

And Elvis, but his name doesn’t have a “B” in it. I was born there too, which I’m sure that’s why Memphis is so cool.

Located on the Mississippi River, Memphis boasts a happening downtown area, with The Peabody, the FedEx Forum, and the music of Beale Street. Since last fall, I’ve had in my mind to offer something cool for the upcoming seniors of 2012. The ideas I’ve had, the putting together a plan of action, and now finally seeing them come to life – I can’t tell you how exciting this is for me and will be for my clients that want something different from their senior session.

You’ve worked hard for the past 11 years, and as such, you deserve the VIP treatment that comes from the Senior in the City session, to guide you through your last year in school. We’ll have a room at The Westin Memphis Beale Street Hotel, right across the street from the FedEx Forum – perfect for getting the final details of hair, make-up and wardrobe ready for your session! Two assistants will also be available for putting together wardrobe & jewerly choices, as well as assisting me in the field. Light, prepared snacks and beverages will provided in the room as well. And you will be the first to see the new 2012 Senior Product Line! (Oh, just.you.wait!)

Once ready, we’ll stroll through downtown Memphis getting shots that will look like nothing we’ve seen ’round these parts. Between the urban backdrops, the historic establishments, and the Mississippi River, you’ll definitely have THE best-looking images to show off back here at home. And don’t worry about changing outfits – I’ll have a special “changing” room for use to switch your killer outfits.

Since availability is limited, you will need to book your date as soon as possible. An early booking special is available to those who book their “Senior in the City” session by June 3, 2011. (Session fee must be received by this date as well.) All available dates must be booked by June 30, 2011. Each booked client will be entered into the 2012 Senior Contest and will get TWO entries in the drawing for the iPad 2! (That is, if I get (20) booked 2012 seniors.) And every booked client will also receive a free gift, valued at $200 – trust me, you’re gonna love it! And as always, a waiting list will be available should any cancellations occur.

So, are you pumped? Are you ready to have THE MOST AWESOME SENIOR SESSION EVER? Without further ado, I present to you the “Senior in the City” Sessions – Memphis-Style:
